Taxes and Due Dates

Juggling taxes and due dates is difficult while trying to run a business.  Now that the stress of second quarter taxes has passed, there are a couple of things that you can do to set things up to make handling this easier going forward.  More and more the various government entities are beginning to require that payments be made electronically.  Ideally you would want to set up an online account with each tax authority to be able to review account balances, payments made and returns filed. It will also store banking information, so payments are quick and easy.  You do not, however, have to have an account set up to make all but IRS business tax payments.

How do I know what my estimates will be?

Fluence is proactive in laying out what estimated taxes will be and updating those amounts throughout the year.  You may receive an e mail update with the information, but the amounts are always available through our SafeSend platform.  One you log in you can view your return, estimated payment vouchers and the click to pay taxes will link you directly to the government entity online payment site.  This makes it easy to both pull up the information and make payments.  You can also log the date, amount and confirmation number of the payment there for your records.

What information do I need to have on hand when I go online to make payments?

The IRS requires the most information on hand.  You need to have the below ready when you go to the website for the IRS to verify you. Note: You cannot make corporate IRS payments unless you are registered with EFTPS and have an additional PIN number or account.

  • Taxpayer name
  • Social Security Number
  • Filing Status
  • Date of Birth
  • Address on last return filed
  • Bank routing number
  • Bank account number
  • Amount of tax payment

For the State of Oregon, you have fewer verifications, but you can choose to make a corporate tax payment (PTE-E, Excise Tax, TriMet Tax, etc.) the same way as you would make a personal tax payment.

  • Social Security Number (personal tax payment)
  • Federal Identification Number (business tax payment)
  • Taxpayer name or entity name depending on the type of payment you are making
  • Oregon Business Identification Number
  • Type of tax you are paying
    • PTE Elective Tax
    • TriMet Tax
    • Corporate Excise Tax
    • Partnership Tax
    • Corporate Activity Tax
    • Personal Tax
  • Bank routing number
  • Bank account number
  • Amount of tax payment

For Multnomah County/City of Portland the setup is nearly the same as the state website.

  • Social Security Number (personal tax payment)
  • Federal Identification Number (business tax payment)
  • Taxpayer name or entity name depending on the type of payment you are making
  • Address of Taxpayer or Entity
  • Type of tax you are paying
    • Multnomah County/City of Portland Business Tax
    • Metro Housing Services Tax
    • Preschool for All Tax
  • Bank routing number
  • Bank account number
  • Amount of tax payment
